Just two days back I thought about stopping at the Indian restaurant Nawab in Roanoke, VA. Nawab is located in the downtown area of Roanoke just beside the famous food-court. Well I had the most disgusting experience at Nawab Indian Restaurant in Roanoke.

Reasons:

Horrible food

Very rude and indecent service at the table.

Loud dining place.

First of all, Nawab is probably a restaurant that serves North-Indian foods. While browsing their menu, I saw they had “Goat” specialties. I asked the waiter to give me simple “Goat Curry”. He said they are out of goat that day. Well, I had to choose something different. So, I was looking for more and found two dishes I have never heard of! Sultan Ki Pasand and Angaar.

I had no idea how do they actually prepare, so I asked the waiter how exactly they make it, if it is a dry or a curry based dish. The waiter probably did not understand my poor english, so he went back and send the most disgusting waiter I have ever seen in my entire life.

“How is your Sultan Ki Pasand?”

-It is written in the menu. Thats how we make it!

“I mean is it a dry dish or it has some curry?”

-It is written in the menu, thats how we cook it!

“Well how do you eat it?”

-You eat with your hands, and with your forks, how else would you eat?

“Mr, I mean do I need to order some raita or can I eat it as served?”

-It is written in the menu, thats how we cook it.

“Well I will take the Angaar, can you make that medium spicy please?”

-Where are you from? Bangladesh or India?

” Calcutta”

-”Calcutta, huh, Angar, You know, Angaar means “aag” means hot, you can not make it medium. There are some dishes that you can only go up and can not go down”.

I was totally frustrated with such a rude behavior but I was very hungry as well, so I just asked for Angar for me and Tikka Masala for my wife. He came back with the food after 25 minutes. The tikka masala was kind of edible but the “Angaar” looked like a piece of charcoal, complete dark, dry and prepared in a dense tamarind sauce. I returned the dish immediately.

After so much, the guy probably felt bad! He said they prepare only “Fusion” food. They don’t make good Indian dishes, they make it how the Americans would like! He also promise that he would treat us “differently” in our next visit.

Guess what, I will never go or recommend anybody for Nawab Indian Cuisine at Roanoke.
